£119 or £139?
The £20 difference is not just about the charging case. Both versions include ANC, while the £139 model adds longer quoted battery life, on-stem volume control, wireless charging and a Find My case speaker.

The £119 and £139 models share the same core experience, but there are four key everyday differences.

The £139 model gives you more than wireless charging
The name undersells the differences. The extra £20 adds a volume-swipe gesture, increases Apple's quoted listening time with Active Noise Cancellation from up to four hours to up to five hours, enables Qi and Apple Watch charging, and adds a Find My speaker to the case. If you regularly adjust volume, listen for long periods or already use wireless charging, these are practical everyday conveniences rather than cosmetic upgrades.
What doesn't the extra £20 buy?
Choosing the £119 model does not mean giving up Active Noise Cancellation. Apple specifies the same core noise-control features for both AirPods 5 versions, including Adaptive Audio, Transparency mode and Conversation Awareness. Both also use an open-ear design and carry an IP57 dust, sweat and water-resistance rating. Stoki has not independently tested Apple's noise-cancellation claims, so manufacturer performance claims should not be read as Stoki measurements.
Who should buy the £119 AirPods 5?
The standard model makes sense if your priority is getting the main AirPods 5 experience for the lowest price. It is particularly worth considering if you normally charge over USB-C, four hours of quoted ANC listening time is sufficient, and you do not care about changing volume from the AirPods themselves. The £139 model costs about 17% more, so there is little reason to pay that premium if its additional conveniences do not solve a problem for you.

Who should buy the £139 AirPods 5?
The £139 version is likely to make more sense for frequent AirPods users. Over three years the £20 difference is about 56p per month. That does not automatically make the upgrade worthwhile, but it puts the premium in context if you know you will use the extra battery life, volume controls or wireless charging.
What if you already own AirPods 4?
A new generation does not mean an existing pair needs replacing. If your AirPods 4 still work well, start with the specific problem an upgrade would solve. Keeping a working pair costs £0. Owners of non-ANC AirPods 4 have a larger difference to consider because Active Noise Cancellation is included on both AirPods 5 models.
What about AirPods Pro 3?
AirPods Pro 3 sit above AirPods 5 in price and use silicone ear tips rather than the open-ear AirPods 5 design. The design preference alone may settle the decision for some buyers. Do not spend more simply because the Pro model sits higher in Apple's range; its particular advantages need to matter to you.
Our buying decision
The £119 AirPods 5 are the value choice: they retain the important core features, including ANC. The £139 AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case are the more complete choice for frequent users because the additional £20 buys longer quoted ANC battery life, on-stem volume adjustment, wireless charging and the Find My case speaker. If your current AirPods work well and none of those features solves a problem, keeping them remains the cheapest option.
AirPods 5 UK release date and availability
As of 17 September 2026, Apple lists AirPods 5 for UK availability from 18 September 2026 at launch prices of £119 and £139. Prices and retailer availability can change after launch, which can also change the buying decision.
